The Program
San José City College offers a Certificate and Associate degree program in
Machine Technology. The programs train men and women in precision metalworking
and other technical skills. The evening or weekend CNC Mill/Lathe programming classes,
and summer CAD/CAM & CNC Mill 4th Axis classes are of particular interest to machinists employed in the industry.
The Associate in Science degree is an expanded program which includes general
education curriculum. Course include:
Principals of Technical Trades
Introduction to Machine Technology
Basic Machine Processes
Advanced Machine Processes
Applied Problems in Machine Tooling
Precision Measurement
General Education courses include:
Lab Science, History or Political Science, Humanities, Speech, English,
Math, Ethnic Studies, Health Education and Physical Education..
Approved course electives include:
CNC Mill Programming
CNC 4th Axis Milling
CNC Lathe Programming
CAD/CAM
Computer Concepts
CADD (Computer Aided Design & Drafting)
Work experience credit can be earned by students employed in the machine
technology field.
The Certificate of Achievement program provides students with excellent
vocational training which will enable them to obtain entry level employment in
the industry. Students must complete all courses listed below plus two approved
elective courses:
Principals of Technical Trades

Basic Machine Processes
Advanced Machine Processes
Applied Problems in Machine Tooling
Precision Measurement
Certificates of completion for individual courses are also awarded by the
department. Courses are transferable to CSUs, and some articulate with the
Industrial Technology program at San Jose State University.
