Language Arts
San José City College's Language Arts Division, whose office is on the second floor of the General Education Building, is made up of the Departments of English, ESL, Journalism, and Reading. A wide range of courses is offered in each department, and unique, diverse courses have been designed to meet students' needs for general education, basic reading and writing professional improvement, and literary interests.
Students can enroll in day, evening, and weekend courses on the centrally located San José City College campus. The Language Arts Division also provides classes off the campus in the San José business community. Pursuing education in San José City College's Language Arts classes is always possible for busy Silicon Valley residents because accelerated classes and mini-semester courses are available.
A dedicated team of instructors teaches in all departments of the Language Arts Division. Active in the San José community and the Silicon Valley, the instructors use a learner-centered approach to bring students to their desired levels of achievement. Many faculty members regularly publish articles and books along with contributing creative writing to journals.
Developing writers, degree seekers, literature lovers, and language learners find courses they are looking for at San José City College. Language Arts provides classes linked to its certificate programs, university transferable courses, literature class sequences, and writing classes linked those in other campus departments. From workforce initiative classes to grammar classes, the Language Arts Division opens doors to knowledge for everyone. Learning has never been as enriching as it is today, and SJCC's Language Arts departments offer computer-assisted writing, video, discussion, self-paced, and accelerated courses along with time honored classroom methods to meet today's needs.
Laboratories and centers for tutoring and improvement in writing, reading, and English language learning are open days and evenings, and they are conveniently located near Language Arts classrooms.
