Quincy Troupe
is the author of six books of poetry. The most recent, Choruses, was published in 1999. He also co-authored Miles: The Autobiography with musician Miles Davis. He is presently the editorial director of Code, a black men's style magazine, and a Professor of creative writing and literature at UC, San Diego.

JD Parran

JD Parran is well known as a player of saxophones, clarinets and flutes. For two decades his featured instrument has been the rarely heard alto clarinet. During this time he collected and experimented with the almost extinct bass saxophone and is currently composing, performing and recording music for this instrument.

Dimensions Dance Company

Dimensions dance company and school was founded in Oakland in 1972 to promote the knowledge and appreciation of African-derived dance. Under the artistic leadership of cofounder Deborah Brooks Vaughan DDT has become widely recognized for its presentation of both traditional African dances and contemporary choreography drawn from African, Jazz and Modern dance idioms. Dimensions has become known for its cross-cultural and issues-oriented collaborations, bridging cultural, racial, and ethnic differences through the arts. Dimensions has garnered national and international acclaim for its performances. In 1984 they were chosen to perform at the Los Angeles Olympic Arts Festival, and in 1988 they appeared in the first National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta. The company has traveled to Nigeria, Jordan and Germany, and has danced throughout the United States. Since 1983, DDT has toured California under the auspices of the California Arts Council's Touring Program.

Maiko Women's Drum and Poetry Ensemble

Maiko is a San Jose based multicultural Women's Drum and Poetry Ensemble. Maiko delivers powerful messages that educate, enlighten, encourage and empower their audiences. They have performed for such organizations as the National Organization for Women, Hispanic Women's Organization, Third World Counselors' Conference, Female Gang Intervention Unit and the YMCA.

CO-SPONSORED WITH WOMEN'S HISTORY CELEBRATION

Music at Midday Recital Series
On selected Wednesdays throughout the semester, the Music
