Graduating Students

Guest Passes will be available to the graduating students at the Student Information Desk in the Student Center from May 8th to May 25th.  Attendance at graduation must be confirmed in order to receive passes.


Please stop by the Student Information Desk in the Student Center if you have not confirmed your attendance for the Commencement Ceremony.


  • In order for your name to appear in the Commencement Program, you must have applied for graduation through the Admissions and Records office.  No names will be added to the Program after May 15th.   
  • Attend a Commencement Information Session to learn details about your big day:
      • Monday, May 15, 3:00 p.m. at Technology Building T-415
      • Tuesday, May 16, 3:00 p.m. at Technology Building T-415
  • For graduates with disabilities: SJCC encourages graduates with disabilities to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. It is very important that you notify Disabilities Student Program & Services at 408-288-3746 or email by May 15th if you anticipate needing any type of special accommodation or have questions about accessibility for yourself or your guests.
  • Academic regalia (i.e. cap and gown) is required. No other adornment is approved. We recommend that graduates not wear flip-flops or extremely high heels.  You can purchase academic regalia at MUST wear cap and gown to participate in the Commencement Ceremony 
  • Arrive at Santa Clara Convention Center by 3:30 p.m. attired in your cap and gown.
  • Diplomas are not distributed at the ceremony because graduation certificate take place upon completing all requirements. Student will receive the diplomas in the mail. (Please be sure to update your permanent home address via MYWEB prior to commencement.)
  • Remain seated after the Ceremony until your row is called by University Marshals. Then, you will recess in single file down the main center aisle. Prior to the ceremony, please arrange to meet your family and guests outside the Santa Clara Convention Center after the ceremony. You will not be permitted to re-enter the main event area. 
  • NOTE: No changing facilities are available at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Please give personal belongings (i.e. purses, cell phones, jackets, etc.) to family or friends to hold during the ceremony.

Guests and Visitors
  • No alcoholic beverages of any kind are permitted anywhere in the Santa Clara Convention Center.

Traffic may be congested on commencement day due to other events in the area; therefore, we recommend that your guests plan to be at the Santa Clara Convention Center by 4:00 p.m., in order to find parking.

Parking for guests with disabilities: ADA parking will be available in the front of the Santa Clara Convention Center additional parking is available in the parking structure. 

Seating for guests with disabilities: Reserved seats tickets will not be needed, but guest with disabilities should arrive by 4:00 p.m. in order to avoid the last-minute rush. Inside the Santa Clara Convention Center usher will be available to assist in taking individuals to the appropriate seating. Due to space limitations, only one person may accompany the guest with disability in the accessible seating area. The chairs in the seating area are plastic, armless, portable chairs to allow for movement for wheelchairs. Other family member may sit in the regular seating located throughout the arena.  

Commencement is a formal academic. We encourage you and your guest to celebrate your graduation; however, we request that graduates and their guests behave with the decorum the occasion deserves. All families are waiting to hear the name of their individual graduate; please hold clapping and cheering until all of your classmates have marched across stage.

Faculty and StaffThe annual commencement ceremony will take place in the Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great America Parkway, Santa Clara, on Friday, May 26, 2017.  The program will begin promptly at 5:00 p.m., one hour earlier than past years.RSVP HERE by May 13.

If you plan to join the procession, you must wear regalia. If you do not already own a cap and gown, please purchase through the bookstore as soon as possible: or x3737.  ​Faculty Cap and Gown Instructions.  Please place online orders by Sunday, May 7th.

    • orders will arrive approximately a week prior to commencement
    • you will receive an email when ready to pick up
    • payment is required at time of pickup
    • staff & faculty receive a 15% discount
    • rental itms must be returned to the campus store by May 31 at 2:00pm
    • campus store staff will also accept returns at the commencement ceremony

Please meet for the Pre-Ceremony Reception and line-up in Room K at 3:30.  Faculty members and administrators will line up at 4:40pm. 

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the platform party will exit first.  Following them, you will preceed the graduates to the Graduate Lounge for a reception.



SJCC Faculty & Staff are invited to join in celebrating our graduates for a special reception following Commencement ceremonies on May 26 at Santa Clara Convention Center. The reception will include an opportunity for our graduates to receive SJCC alumni pins, to take photos with loved ones and our faculty/staff, and to meet an intimate group of employers offering summer internships and employment opportunities for graduates of our Certificate and Degree programs.  Refreshments and hors d'oeuvre will be served.  Be sure to join us for this special celebration of our graduates.
