Admissions Guide
Enrollment fees have been increased from $26 to $36 per unit effective Fall semester 2011, Per SB 70.
To be eligible for SJCC admission, students must be at least 18 years old or have one of the following documents:
- High School Diploma
- General Education Degree (GED)
- High School Proficiency Certificate>
Students must formally submit an application for admission to the Admissions and Records Office (online or in person) prior to registering.
New Students— first-time students who have never attended San José City College (Reached 18 years of age or High School Graduate):
- Apply online at www.sjcc.edu or www.cccapply.org.
- Schedule and take the Assessment tests.
- After you complete the Assessment, you will be directed to the Counseling Office for advisement or attend an Orientation session.
- Register for class(es) by calling the Student Telephone Assisted Registration (StaReg) system, (408) 223-0300, or online at MyWeb.sjeccd.edu.
- Obtain a basic ID card (free) or a photo ID card ($5). You will need this card to check out books, for other services, and to receive ASB benefits.
Continuing Students - currently enrolled students or students who were on approved academic leave last semester at the College — Continuing students are E-mailed a StaReg access appointment to register based upon the District’s Registration Priority procedure.
- Make sure any required assessment tests have been taken. Refer to the Assessment section for details.
- Clear any holds you may have before registering.
- Register for class(es) by calling the Student Telephone Assisted Registration (StaReg) system, (408) 223-0300, or online at MyWeb.sjeccd.edu.
Returning Students- students who have previously attended the College but were not enrolled during the last semester (not on probation or dismissal):
- Apply online at www.sjcc.edu or www.cccapply.org.

Returning Student - (On Probation and/or Dismissal)

- Schedule a required counseling appointment.
- Clear any holds you may have before registering.

- Obtain a basic ID card (free) or a photo ID card ($5). You will need this card to check out books, for other services, and to receive ASB benefits.
New Transfer College Student (Student Who has Attended Another College):
- Apply online at www.sjcc.edu or www.cccapply.org.
- Submit official transcripts to the Office of Admissions and Records. Make an appointment with a counselor, if necessary.*
- Register for class(es) by calling the Student Telephone Assisted Registration (StaReg) system, (408) 223-0300, or online at MyWeb.sjeccd.edu. *Academic counseling is not required for transfer students. However, to avoid delay in registering for classes (especially if you have taken the prerequisites at other colleges) and the possibility of taking unnecessary classes, we strongly recommend that you make a counseling appointment. It is important that you bring unofficial transcripts to the counseling appointment so the counselor can determine if required course prerequisites have been met and enter them in the computer system.
High School Student(R-40):
- Apply online at www.sjcc.edu or www.cccapply.org.
- Complete and submit an Attendance Approval Form (R-40), including all necessary signatures and the specific courses the student is requesting.
- Schedule and take the Assessment test, and attend an orientation.
- Register for class(es) in person only.
- Obtain a basic ID card (free) or a photo ID card ($5) You will need this card to check out books, for other services, and to receive ASB benefits.
Per State regulations, high school students are required to complete and submit a new R-40 form every term/semester of enrollment. This information applies to new, returning, and continuing students. Concurrently enrolled high school students may only take courses approved by their principals, which offer enrichment and are not available through their high schools.
Students under 18 and Not in High School (R-42) that Have Not passed the California Proficiency Exam or G.E.D., including home schooled students
- 1. Apply online at www.sjcc.edu or www.cccapply.org.
- Complete and submit the Special Part-Time Student Admission Form (R-42). Other supporting documentation is required, depending on the student’s type of “part-time status.” See an Admissions representative for more information.
- Schedule an Assessment test at the time you submit your application and the R-42 form.
- Upon completion of the Assessment, make an appointment to see the Director of Admission.
- If approved to enroll, you will be given a registration date and time.
- Register for class(es) in person.
- Obtain a basic ID card (free) or a photo ID card ($5). You will need this card to check out books, for other services, and to receive ASB benefits.
- Students wishing to register for the next semester/session are required to complete the above procedure.
Open Curriculum Class(es) Only for students over 18 years of age or High School Graduates*

*An open curriculum class is one that has no prerequisites of any kind. However, some courses such as English 321 and Math 310 may require that Assessment results be on file prior to the first day of class.
Supplemental Application Requirements
Certain departments or programs have special requirements and/or enrollment limitations. In addition to the college Application for Admission, candidates seeking admission into these programs/ departments are required to submit supplemental applications, and are subject to additional screening.
Supplemental applications are required at EVC for candidates entering Nursing Education and In-Service Law Enforcement and at SJCC for candidates entering the Cosmetology department.
Information regarding the supplemental application for EVC Nursing Education is available in the Nursing department office in Sequoia. Candidates applying to the Nursing Program must submit an official transcript from all previously attended colleges with their Nursing application. Incomplete application packets, missing transcripts, will not be considered.
Cosmetology information is available in the cosmetology building (next to reprographics) or by calling 408-288-3710. Applications for the In-Service Law Enforcement program are available only at the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium.
College transcripts from previously attended accredited institutions may be used to determine a student’s exemption from testing requirements. Although not required for admission, the student’s official college transcripts from other accredited institutions will be reviewed for graduation from either EVC or SJCC.
All transcripts become the permanent property of the San Jose/Evergreen Community College District.
Requirements for Veterans
All Veterans at SJCC are required to file official transcripts from all previously attended colleges with the Office of Admissions and Records.
