ALL GUESTS WILL NEED AN SJCC GRADUATION PASS TO PARTICIPATE. Graduation Passes will be available to the graduating students at the Student Information Desk in the Student Center from May 7th to May 11th.

It's important to know:

  • For your name to appear in the Commencement Program, you must have applied for graduation through the Admissions and Records office.  No names will be added to the Program after May 4th.                                                                     
  • ​​​Attend a Commencement Information Session to learn details about your big day:
    • Monday, May 14th, 3:00 p.m. at Technology Building T-415
    • Tuesday, May 15th, 3:00 p.m. at Technology Building T-415
  • For graduates with disabilities: SJCC encourages graduates with disabilities to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. It is essential that you notify Student Accessibility Services at 408-288-3746 or email dsps@sjcc.edu by May 4th if you anticipate needing any special accommodation or have questions about accessibility for yourself or your guests.                                                                                                                                                                                  
  • Academic regalia (i.e., cap and gown) is required. No other adornment is approved. We recommend that graduates not wear flip-flops or extremely high heels.  You can purchase academic regalia at http://colleges.herffjones.com/college/_sjcc  You MUST wear cap and gown to participate in the Commencement Ceremony.                                                                                                                                                                                           
  • Arrive at Santa Clara Convention Center by 8:30 a.m. attired in your cap and gown.                                                                    
  • Diplomas are not distributed at the ceremony because graduation certificates are awarded upon completion of all requirements.                                                                                                                                                                                                                        
  • Remain seated after the Ceremony until your row is called by College Marshals. Then, you will recess in single file down the main center aisle. Before the ceremony, please arrange to meet your family and guests outside the Santa Clara Convention Center after the ceremony. You will not be permitted to re-enter the main event area.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         
  • NOTE: No changing facilities are available at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Please give personal belongings (i.e., purses, cell phones, jackets, etc.) to family or friends to hold during the ceremony. 

 

Keep in mind:

  • No alcoholic beverages of any kind are permitted anywhere in the Santa Clara Convention Center.                                 
  • Traffic may be congested on commencement day due to other events in the area; therefore, we recommend that your guests plan to be at the Santa Clara Convention Center by 9:00 a.m., to find parking.
     
  • Parking for guests with disabilities: ADA parking will be available in the front of the Santa Clara Convention Center additional parking is available in the parking structure.
     
  • Seating for guests with disabilities: Reserved seat tickets will not be needed, but guest with disabilities should arrive by 9:00 a.m. to avoid the last-minute rush. Inside the Santa Clara Convention Center usher will be available to assist in taking individuals to the appropriate seating. Due to space limitations, only one person may accompany the guest with disability in the accessible seating area. The chairs in the seating area are plastic, armless, portable chairs to allow for movement for wheelchairs. Other family members may sit in the regular seating located throughout the arena. 
     
  • Commencement is a formal academic. We encourage you and your guest to celebrate your graduation; however, we request that graduates and their guests behave with the decorum the occasion deserves. All families are waiting to hear the name of their graduate; please hold clapping and cheering until all of your classmates have marched across the stage.

    To ensure the best experience for all, the following items are not allowed at the ceremony:
    • Balloons
    • Confetti
    • Streamer or "Silly String"
    • Horns, megaphones, or other sound amplifying devices

May 26th:  Commencement Day

    • 8:30 a.m. Graduates must report to Santa Clara Convention Center to prepare. Be sure to allow sufficient time for parking and heavy traffic.
    • 9:00 a.m. Doors open for guests to begin finding seating
    • 10:00-12:00 p.m. Commencement Ceremony
    • 12:00-1:00 p.m. Optional reception for graduates, family, and friends​​​
