What are the CSU Transfer Requirements?
If you wish to transfer smoothly to a CSU as a junior, you must:
- Have a college grade point average of 2.00 or better (2.40 for non-California
residents) in all transferable college units completed.
- Be in good standing at the last college or university attended, i.e., you
are eligible to re-enroll.
- Complete or will complete at least 56 semester units (82 quarter units)
prior to transfer. Some campuses are beginning to require students to complete
60 units before transfer. Included in these units, should be the completion
of either CSU
General Education Requirements or IGETC.
- Earn a C or better grade in each general education course.
How do I know what courses will transfer to CSU?
Information about whether a course at San Jose City College (SJCC) is transferable
to the CSU can be found in the SJCC catalog. This information is also available
online at Assist. For information
on transferring to San Jose State University, click here
When should I apply?
You are urged to apply during the priority filing period. Applications
are available in Transfer Center or you may apply online.
Although some campuses and majors remain open after the priority filing period,
applications to impacted programs/campuses must be filed during the initial
filing period (first month of the filing period). The application fee is $55
for each campus you select. Application fees may be waived for certain students.
See your counselor for details.

* Most CSU campuses are on the semester system, but some such as CSU Hayward
and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, follow the quarter system.
If I missed the Application Filing Period, can I still apply?
Maybe. Applications for impacted programs/campuses must be filed during
the initial filing period. San Diego State University and Cal Poly San Luis
Obispo only accept applications during the priority filing periods. However,
other campuses continue to accept applications after the filing period. Check
the Application
Status Report to find out what schools and majors are still accepting applications.
How can I get help filling out my CSU application?
You can make an appointment with your counselor, come to the Transfer Center
to talk to our CSU Representative or attend a CSU
Application Workshop.
Does SJCC have a Transfer
Admission Agreement (TAA) with any of the CSU campuses?
Yes. SJCC has an agreement with San Jose State University, and CSU Monterey
Bay.
How much does it cost?
The cost will vary depending on the college or university attended. For
2001-2002, CSU fees were $1,428 per year for California residents. Students
also paid an average of $413 in miscellaneous campus fees for average total
fees of $1,841 (actual campus fees vary by campus). Students who are not U.S.
citizens or California residents must also pay nonresident tuition, which is
$246 for each semester unit (or $164 for each quarter unit), in which they enroll.
In addition to fees, students must consider books, living expenses and transportation
into their education costs. The location of each CSU campus affects the costs
at that campus. Financial aid is available
at all campuses. Click here
