Out-of-State
Colleges and Universities Information
Tips for Transferring to an Out-of-state College or University
- To see if your major is offered at a particular school:
- Look up general information and transfer admissions requirements in the
four-year university catalog or on their web site. Click here to find the
web
sites for out-of-state colleges .
- Each university will have specific major and admissions requirements.
Even though San José City College may not have articulation agreements with
all colleges, your counselor will be able to advise you as to which SJCC classes
will be appropriate to take for the four-year college your are planning to
transfer.
- It may be possible to transfer to many out-of-state colleges as a lower
division transfer student (less than 56 semester units), and in
some cases, it may be to your advantage to do so. An example would be if
there are several lower division courses required for your major that are
not available at San José City College. Transfer admission requirements vary,
so check the catalog or web
site for the college that you are interested in attending.
- Write to the school early and request information on transfer requirements,
cost of tuition, out-of-state fees, requirements to your major, housing, scholarship,
financial aid and application deadlines.
- File your application for admission during the priority filing period
and respond to all requests for additional information (official transcripts,
test scores, etc.) by the dates requested.
