Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship Program
Attention SJCC transfer students - this generous scholarship is available to qualified transfer students who are planning on transferring to a four year institution in the Fall of 2004. University of San Francisco
University Transfer Scholarship
Students admitted as University Transfer Scholars will be awarded $4,500 a year for up to 3 years of full-time study at USF. Students who have a 3.5 GPA on all transferalbe coursework and who have completed a minimum of 30 transferable units will automatically be considered for the competitive scholarship. The award will be based on academic performance and community service.
Date: In order to be considered eligible for the scholarship, applications for admission to the University must be completed by February 1.
California State University, Chico
Academic and Performance Award Scholarship
$1000 award to attend CSU Chico. You must be planning to enroll at CSU Chico in the Fall semester and to major in one of the degree programs in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. GPA and history of involvement in activities related to the social sciences will also be considered. Ethnic minorities are especially encouraged to apply.

Peninsula Community Foundation
Crain Educational Grants Program
Up to 10 $5000 scholarships will be awarded to graduates of high schools in San Mateo or Santa Clara counties who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, have demonstrated financial hardship and have demonstrated community involvement over a period of several years. The selection committee looks for academic promise, documented perseverance in activities outside the classroom, the quality of the personal statement essay and personal characteristics such as honesty, good judgement and community service.

A $2000 grant is available for an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in the field of creative writing. Candidates must submit creative writing samples and demonstrate in a personal statement their commitment to creative writing. Williams Scholarship
City College Alumnus Sam Williams (now a Silicon Valley entrepreneur) has established a charitable foundation that is awarding scholarships to needy students. The Foundation gives five $1000 scholarships. Recipients will be selected by the Scholarship Committee in the Spring. The students may be new at City College, continuing or about to transfer.

Robert N. Chang Charitable Foundation
$7000 Transfer Scholarship
A renewable $7000 scholarship for students who are low-income, successful in school, have overcome hardships in order to meet their goals, and who are highly motivated. Students must: be currently enrolled in at least 12 units at SJCC; have completed at least 24 transferable semester units at SJCC at the time of transfer; possess a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on all transferable courses completed at SJCC; be a junior upon transfer to the baccalaureate institution (have completed at least 60 transferable units); and demonstrate that you are a low-income student with financial need.

One $1500 scholarship is available to a community college student in San Mateo or Santa Clara counties who has a 2.4 GPA and is planning to transfer to an accredited college, university or technical school full or part-time. Required along with the application are two letters of recommendation and a personal essay discussing how you have demonstrated support for justice and equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons in your community as well as a brief description of your educational and career plans and any other factors you wish to be considered.

National Defence Transportation Association
This scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to a Bay Area student who is a US Citizen and is enrolled in a Bay Area accredited institution of higher learning in an undergraduate degree or vocational program in the fields of Transportation/Logistics, Business, Marketing, Engineering, Planning or Environment, preparing to pursue a career related to transportation. Community College Transfer Student Scholarship
A $2000 scholarship for students transferring to UCLA in the fall with a minimum 3.75 GPA and the equivalent of 90 UC-transferable quarter units (60 semester units), at least half of which were completed at California community colleges. Scholarships are paid out over 2 years and require a combination of 30 hours of services annually to UCLA and the alumni association. $5000 need-based grants are also available for one year to scholarship recipients who have demonstrated financial need. All transfer applicants must be available in June for personal interviews.
