Chemistry

All of SJCC's chemistry courses are transferable to universities in the UC and CSU systems, as well as most private universities and degree programs nationwide. This link contains a description of each chemistry course we offer and the current semester’s schedule of classes. You will find a wealth of information, including prerequisite and articulation information.

Faculty & Staff

All of the full-time chemistry faculty members hold Ph.D's from highly respected universities. We pride ourselves in teaching excellence and have nearly a century of combined teaching experience. Our faculty encompass a diverse range of expertise in chemistry, from analytical, to inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry.

Chemistry Resources

In addition to our state-of-the-art classroom and laboratory facilities, the Chemistry Department has a wide range of teaching tools at its discposal. Certain courses use Chime  computer software to help with the visualization of 3D  molecules. Recently, we acquiredan analytical  FT-IR Spectrometer, Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, GOWMAC Gas Chromatograph, High Performance Chromatograph, NMR Spectrometer, Refractometer, Digital Polarimeter, Modern Rotoevaporators, Chemistry Computational Software and more!

Peer-Led Learning

Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) is a small-group collaborative approach to learning, studying, and orally communicating chemistry, biology, math and physics. Click on the first link to find out our current semester schedule of PLTL workshops. Students who become peer leaders earn a modest stipend and are offered opportunities to participate in local and national conferences, internships, and more.
