Emergency Medical Services

Are you the type of person who runs toward danger,

but never feel trained enough to help?

Then we have the course for you.

 

People who take our courses come from a variety of backgrounds and aspirations; they include law enforcement, fire service, emergency medicine, emergency room technician, security, life guard, CERT, childcare, educators, and emergency managers to name a few. We offer the 24 hour refresher course for EMT-B, EMR (60hrs) and we offer a 180 hour EMT-B certification program.


EMS 010- Emergency Medical Technician B (EMT-B)

The Emergency Medical Technician Program at San Jose City College is a semester long program designed to train individuals in the concepts of Basic Life Support emergency care. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be eligible to take the National Registry EMT-B written exam for certification.


Prerequisites:

    • Student must possess a valid American Heart Association CPR card for the Healthcare Professional
    • Note - Red Cross CPR card will not be accepted
    • Must be 18 years old by the start of class

EMS 005- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

This course is for non-ambulance professional rescuers who are first to arrive at an emergency medical scene to provide pre-hospital care. Topics covered are patient assessment, CPR review, airway, shock, wound management, full body immobilization, and initial treatment for other medical emergencies.

Prerequisites:

    • Student must possess a valid American Heart Association CPR card for the Healthcare Professional
    • Note - Red Cross CPR card will not be accepted.
