Matriculation is a process that enhances student access to the California Community Colleges.  It promotes and sustains the efforts of credit students to be successful in their educational endeavors. Components include:

What are the Goals?

The goals of matriculation are to ensure that all students complete their college courses, persist to the next academic term, and achieve their educational objectives.

Research conducted on data from over 25 colleges from six districts with a 100,000 student sample size from the year 2001-2004 shows that Matriculation is proven to increase student success.

New Student Registration Steps to Success

  1. Admissions: Complete & submit your Application for Admission online at CCCApply.

  2. Fees: There are no fees until you enroll in classes. However, once you register, be sure to pay your fees by the established deadline. Keep in mind that regardless of your eligibility for assistance you are still responsible for the $17 Health Fee, $5 Associated Student Activity fee and any class material fees. There are two programs that can assist you in the process.

  3. Complete the Board of Governors Fee Waiver Program: (BOGFW) to ensure your enrollment fees are waived if you qualify. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will assist you with grants/loans. For additional information, visit Financial Aid.

  4. Assessment: Schedule to take an Assessment test.  An SJCC Student ID is needed to schedule an appointment so have your student ID number available.  Assessment is required of all new students unless you have proof (transcripts indicating  appropriate course completion or test results from another college). You must bring your transcripts for a counselor to review and clear the prerequisites.

  5. Orientation: Register & attend a GUID-097 ―Orientation to College course. Students planning to take the ESL assessment are required to take the assessment at least 1 week prior to orientation date.

  6. Register: Register for class(es) online at MyWeb or by calling StaReg at (408) 223-0300.  For a copy of your schedule visit MyWeb.

  7. Obtain a free student I.D. card (without picture) or $5.00 with picture, at the Information Center (Student Center-1st Floor).

  8. Attend your Classes: Instructors have the right to drop any students who don’t attend the first day of class to accommodate students on the waiting list who are trying to add. Attending the first day ensures you will not be dropped.

  9. Purchase a Parking Permit online at MyWeb.

  10. Buy Your Books: Online or in-person at the Campus Bookstore (SC-107).

  11. Counseling: Schedule an appointment during your first semester to create an educational plan.

  12. Follow-Up: Schedule an appointment with a counselor every semester to be sure you are making progress toward your goal (certificate, degree, transfer, etc).
