The Cosmetology program of SJCC is known to be the best in the state. Instructors are highly experienced from industry and have their forte of professional expertise. Local employers prefer to hire SJCC graduates because of its great reputation over 40 years of producing exceptionally qualified graduates. SJCC is a Pivot Point member school that offers thought-provoking curricula in the new millennium. The Pivot Point program encompasses an all-inclusive cosmetology curriculum delivered through a scientific, step by step, hands-on learning process.
Program Enrollment
Enrollment into the program is accepted in either the fall semester or the spring semester. Most students complete the program in two full semesters and a summer session. The cosmetology program is designed for full-time students only. Because SJCC is a community college funded by the state, we are able to provide this comprehensive education at a fraction of the cost of private schools. Students pay $20 per unit.
Program Completion
Students enrolled in the Cosmetology program at San Jose City College (SJCC) have the opportunity to receive instruction in the areas of hair, skin, nail, and salon skills. After completion of the program, students can earn a Certificate of Achievement and/or Associate of Science degree. In addition, SJCC graduates acquire necessary skills and knowledge to pass the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology exam. To be eligible for the State license, students must successfully complete 1600 clock hours in an educational institution approved by the Bureau of Barbering and Cosmetology.
