Philosophy

Our dance faculty encourages anyone interested in dance to enroll in a course at San Jose City College.  Whether you want to dance to learn more about your body, express yourself through movement, or increase your strength and flexibility, dance can be a satisfying avenue for you.

The goal of the SJCC dance program is to facilitate independent movers and thinkers.  We strive to nurture an individual’s artistic process as a manifestation of critical thought.  Through the education of sound movement techniques, knowledge of the human body, dance appreciation and analysis, critical thinking skills and precision to express an artistic vision, a dance student can become an artist, performer and choreographer.

Mission

Our mission is to create dance as an expressive art form for the SJCC community and the community at large.  Through dance education and performance, we can bring new awareness to many personal and cultural issues.  Through human movement and dance tradition, we all can gain perspective on understanding diversity and change in our society.  Dance is a universal language used to communicate openly and freely to all people.  Please join us, and share your voice through movement.
