After completing her studies at San Jose City College, Trudy Dong transferred to U.C. Berkeley where she earned her Bachelor’s degree. Part of her success came from using the skills she gained at City College. “In my English classes,” she says, “I was exposed to many different writing styles, and I learned about the tremendous impact words have.” Congratulations to students like Trudy and to the outstanding faculty in our English Department.
Interdisciplinary course offerings, such as Learning Communities that combine composition and reading, vary from semester to semester. Schedules of classes are available online or at the City College Bookstore.
Student-oriented faculty teach day, evening, and weekend courses. In the classroom, online, or during office hours, they welcome opportunities to work with students individually. SJCC's Reading and Writing Center additionally provides experienced instructors, instructional assistants, and tutors to promote students’ success in writing in all disciplines. Workshops focus on topics ranging from punctuation and grammar to the writing of the University of California transfer application.
