Online Learning at SJCC

There are many forms of online learning at San José City College:

  • Face-to-face classes may have online assignments.
  • Hybrid classes are taught partly in the classroom and partly online.
    • Hybrid - Partly Online — These classes meet regularly, but have less class time than standard face-to-face classes. The rest of the class takes place online.
    • Hybrid - Mostly Online — These classes are conducted online, but require attendance on campus for an orientation or one or more exams.
  • Online classes are taught completely online.

Is distance education right for you?

Distance Learning can provide an excellent way to achieve your educational goals, especially if you need a more flexible schedule or are unable to come to campus. But you should be aware that:

  • Online courses require as much time and commitment as traditional classroom-based courses.
  • Most of your communication with your instructor and with other students will be in writing (in the form of email, discussion forums, chat rooms, blogs, wikis, or other online communication methods).
  • Studying online requires:
    • self-motivation
    • self-discipline
    • the ability to follow written instructions
    • the ability to work on your own

Getting Started

Most classes use Moodle, our campus online learning environment. If your class does not use Moodle, your instructor will tell you how to access online materials on another site.

visit our On-line Resources page.

Distance Learning is not for everyone. To help you decide whether distance learning is right for you, you can take the Self Assessment Quiz at online.fiu.edu.
