HONORS PROGRAM - A challenging curriculum designed specifically for the Honor student the option of working with a distinguished Faculty member in developing a challenging Honors on tract for a transferable level course. Individualized counseling and academic planning Designated Honors status on their academic transcript.
LEARNING COMMUNITIES - Two or more classes linked together by a common theme or context are known as Learning Communities. For example, one learning community combines English 1A and Health Education 11, integrating reading, writing, and health concepts for students interested in knowing more about their physical well-being or a career in Allied Health.
METAS - The Metas Program is a student support service dedicated to increasing the graduation and transfer rates of our Latino/a student population. Metas is the Spanish word for “goals” and the Metas Program focus is helping Latino/a students determine a clear path to successfully achieve their academic goals.
MIDDLE COLLEGE - San Jose Middle College is an advanced program for juniors and seniors who take 2-3 free college classes and 4 high school classes on the san Jose City College campus. Students earn a high school diploma while at the same time accumulating transferable college credit towards community and 4 year universities.
PHI THETA KAPPA - Phi Theta Kappa Honors Chapter (Beta Epsilon Nu)
PUENTE - The mission of the Puente Project is to increase the number of educationally underrepresented students who enroll in four-year universities, earn degrees, and return to the community as leaders and mentors.
SERVICE LEARNING - The Service Learning Program links San José City College as a community of learners with real world experiences in our modern world. It is an experiential learning program that arranges for students to interact with diverse and often under served people in a variety of workplace environments, to critically reflect on what happens there, and to integrate their experiences with classroom learning and their own lives.
TECH PREP - Tech Prep is an integrated school-to-career educational partnership program. We help students explore and train for career options by integrating high school/adult education with community college education. We assist students to "jump-start" their future career pursuits. With the Tech Prep program, students take articulated courses in high school/adult education that count towards college credit for advanced certificates and associate degrees.
WORK EXPERIENCE - The SJCC Work Experience Program allows working students the opportunity to earn college credit for the time and effort that they spend at work to improve job skills and job performance. Students will soon learn that setting goals and writing job-related learning objectives can link what they learn in the classroom to what they learn at work. In this program, no classroom time is required. Your workplace is your classroom.
