Academic Success Workshops

The Metas Program is committed to providing academic support to help San Jose City College students successfully move through their courses and navigate through college life. In collaboration with EOPS and the Reading & Writing Center, the Metas Program hosts a variety of academic success workshops facilitated by San Jose City College instructors. These free workshops are open to all SJCC student currently enrolled in courses. Identify effective learning strategies and to brush up on reading and writing skills while working within an informal and interactive learning environment.

TEST TAKING SKILLS

Raise you exam scores

Want to do better on your upcoming midterms and final exams? In this workshop,you'll learn some effective strategies for test taking and how to manage stress. Don't lose sleep over a test.
  Identify different types of test questions and how to best
     answer them.
   Identify effective strategies for performing well on tests.
   Learn and apply strategies for managing test anxiety.

TIME MANAGEMENT

Have Time to Spare

Identify strategies to make the best use of your time as you juggle your class schedule, work schedule, and daily life. Bring your class schedule, work schedule, and be prepared to prioritize your tasks.
   Combat procrastination.
   Apply important components of effective time management skills.
   Develop an effective daily, weekly, and semester schedule.

NOTE‐TAKING

Taking Better Notes

Learn practical note-taking techniques to help you remember reading assignments and classroom activities. Learn to apply good study habits during lectures and while reading your textbook to help you understand important information.
   Identify several different styles of note-taking.
   Learn effective ways to take notes for lectures and readings.
   Find your own note-taking style.

Do you know your learning style? In this workshop, you’ll understand your learning style and know how to apply study techniques to maximize your learning experience.

Math Anxiety

Conquer Your Math Fears

Learn about “Math Anxiety” and “Math Avoidance”. You will be actively involved in learning techniques for anxiety management and reduction, attitude changing, and confidence building. You will also learn problem-solving strategies. The goal is to further develop your competence in mathematics.
