After You're Admitted: Orientation and Arrival

Once you are admitted to our college, an admission packet will be sent to you within 2 weeks. When you receive your admission packet, you should pay a SEVIS fee and visa fee and schedule an interview at the U.S. embassy or consulate to apply for your F-1 visa as early as possible but no earlier than 90 days prior to the program date listed on your I-20. Prepare for your interview. You must demonstrate your intention to return to your home country after you complete your studies in the United States. If your visa application is approved, you will receive a F-1 visa in your passport. You are now prepared to attend San Jose City College.

Orientation

Your success is our priority. Orientation is the first step to success at San Jose City College. Your admission packet will include a list of your next steps to confirm your admission at San Jose City College. You will be allowed to register for some classes prior to arrival, but upon arrival, you will be required to take a placement test and meet with a counselor to review and schedule additional classes. A one-day group orientation will be scheduled about 2 weeks before the semester starts. More information will be listed in your admission packet.

Check-In and Arrival

You are allowed to enter the U.S. up to 30 days before the program start date listed on your I-20. Please schedule your flight to arrive prior to the date of the group orientation. When you arrive, please check in to the International Program Office. You will need to bring the following to check in:

  • Passport
