San Jose City College requires that students are required to demonstrate proof of English proficiency to be considered for admission. The college currently accepts the following as proof of proficiency:

Minimum Score: 500 paper-based; 173 electronic-based; 61 internet-based.
Scores must be sent to the college directly from Educational Testing Service.

Students who do not meet the language proficiency requirements should consider attending an Intensive English Program that has an established partnership with SJCC. Upon completion of certain English levels or by the recommendation of the program, students will be eligible to transfer to San Jose City College without taking the standardized TOEFL exam. Students attending the following language institutes are eligible to transfer to SJCC under this partnership agreement:
