Applying to San Jose City College is Easy!

Submit an application and supporting documents below by the application deadline.

New Students

"I am applying to San Jose City College from outside the U.S.”


  1. International Student Application (Download, Complete and Print)
  2. $100.00 non-refundable application processing fee by credit card, U.S. check, or international money order payable to San Jose City College
  3. Official English detailed translations of all your secondary and post-secondary transcripts
  4. English Language Proficiency Requirement
    a) By Examination: Scores must be sent directly by testing agency
    • TOEFL School Code: 4686 Dept Code: 00, Minimum Score: 500 paper-based; 61 iBT  
    • IELTS Academic Module Minimum Band Score: 6.0 
    • STEP-EIKEN Minimum Score: Step 2A
    b) Completion of the prerequisite course for college level English at a U.S. institution.
    c)  By Participation in Partner English Language Program
  5. Original Bank Certification Letter indicating required funds in USD (For 2012-2013 year, minimum $20,086 USD required) 
  6. Confidential Financial Certification form (page 4 of application)
  7. Passport-Size Photograph
  8. Statement of Purpose: Please write a brief, accurate statement of your academic and professional goals, why you wish to study in the United States, and why you have chosen San Jose City College (up to 250 words)
  9. Dependent Information Form (if applicable)



Transfer Students

"I am planning to transfer to San Jose City College from another U.S. college/language program"

  1. Follow the procedure above for New Students. 

  2. In addition, submit the following:  

    • Copy of Current Form I-20
    • Current Visa
    • Passport
    • Biographical Information Page
    • I-94 card (if applicable)

Admitted transfer students will be issued a transfer release form in the admission packet that needs to be completed by the school the students are transferring from. A transfer must occur within 60 days of the session end date of the first school. Transfer students must be in good academic and immigration standing at the previous school attended.



Concurrent Enrollment Students

“I am currently studying at another college and plan to study at San Jose City College part-time under concurrent enrollment status"

  1. Go to CCCApply and submit an application. 

  2. Obtain a permission letter from your current school’s International Program allowing you to take  one or two courses at SJCC.  Bring permission letter to the Office of Admissions & Records at San Jose City College to obtain a student i.d. number.

  3. If you are registering for a class that has a prerequisite, clear prerequisites with a SJCC counselor by bringing a copy of your transcripts to the Counseling Department.

  4. Register for classes online at MyWeb.

Upon receipt of a complete application, the international admissions staff will review it. Admission decisions will be mailed within 2 weeks. Admitted students will receive a letter of acceptance, form I-20, and other admission information.

Upon receipt of a complete application, the international admissions staff will review it. Admission decisions will be mailed within 2 weeks. Admitted students will receive a letter of acceptance, form I-20, and other admission information.

English Language Resources

We understand that taking a standardized examination to assess your English may be challenging. We offer another option to help you meet our English Language Proficiency requirement- Participation in a Partner English Language Program.  Upon completion of certain English levels in the intensive English Program or by the recommendation of the program, students will be eligible to transfer to San Jose City College without taking the standardized TOEFL/IELTS exam. Students attending the following language institutes are eligible to transfer to SJCC under this partnership agreement:
