KinderCaminata - 450 Kindergarteners Visit San José City College

On April 24th nearly 500 Kindergarten students from the Alum Rock District will take busses to San José City to walk through a series of career stations and learn about various professions. KinderCaminata will give these children the promise of higher education as well as the opportunity to receive information regarding different careers. KinderCaminata will give these children the promise of higher education as well as the opportunity to receive information regarding different careers.

San José City College hopes that partnerships such as KinderCaminata will help elementary school students to begin to dream and plan for college. San José City College President Dr. Michael Burke notes that "KinderCaminata is the day that San José City College offers a wealth of opportunities to these children. Many families believe that a quality college education is difficult to obtain or has to be expensive. KinderCaminata shows these families that a college education is within the reach of their children." Franklin-McKinley School District Superintendent Larry Aceves, whose students attended last year said, "What a special day it was for the children, the teachers and the parents that attended. I very much appreciated the hard work that went into making it so 'seamless.'

The colorful event will feature the San Jose Mounted Police, a San Jose City Fire-truck, an ambulance, the San Jose Sharks Car, the Lincoln High School Folklorico Dance Troupe, Samba dancing, snacks, hats, backpacks and other giveaways.
