About the Program

In addition to the Associate of Arts degree, designed for the transfer-bound students, the Business Department offers a wide variety of certificate programs and an Associate of Science degree for the career-minded students.  The rapidly evolving global marketplace of today is highly competitive; it demands a new kind of workers—the knowledge workers.  One will need a deep grounding in business theory along with first-rate skills in business management, marketing, leadership, technological sophistication and a keen understanding of the global nature of the marketplace to be successful.

Our certificate and the A.S. degree programs are designed for students, who are interested to begin a business career, prepare to assume positions of responsibility, update the skill sets necessary to stay current in the rapidly changing business environment.  These skill sets include, but not limited to, the ability to communicate effectively, work in teams and creative problem solving.  There are four areas of concentration—management, marketing, entrepreneurship and electronic commerce.

All the faculty teaching in the business programs have advanced degrees in business or a related field, and have extensive practical experience in the field of their respective expertise.  They bring their insights and today’s business issues directly into the classroom for discussion and exploration.

In addition to the traditional classroom setting, San Jose City College offers a variety of online and web-enhanced courses, providing an opportunity for students who otherwise would not be able to continue their education.  In some classes, students would be able to interact with guest speakers and students located out of the area or out of the country through the online or web-enhanced courses.
