Position Title : Summer Day Camp Director Hours per Week : varying hours betwen 7:15 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. (full-day, half-day, or on-call) Duties : The Position: The City of Sunnyvale is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individuals interested in summer employment to assist with recreation programs serving youth from 5 to 14 years old. The summer recreation programs are held at various parks and schools throughout the City of Sunnyvale.
. Organize and lead recreation activities including arts and crafts, sports, and games
. Supervise participants, teen volunteers, and all activities held at camp. Also field trips and special events, which may include bus travel to local attractions
. Take attendance and assist with record-keeping
. Issue, maintain, and store equipment and supplies
. Interact and communicate effectively with children, parents, care-givers, volunteers and City staff
. Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants and teen volunteers
. Camp Site Directors are additionally responsible for planning, purchasing supplies, training and supervising staff, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Skills : Minimum Qualifications
. Minimum age: 16 years old (students under 18 must obtain a Student Work Permit prior to employment.)
. Paid or volunteer experience with youth or recreation programs is preferred for Camp Counselor, and is a must for Camp Site Director.
. Please list all paid or volunteer experience on the supplemental application.
. Camp Site Director is required to possess a valid California Driver's license.
. Must be available to work varying hours Monday through Friday between 7:15a.m. and 7:30p.m. (full-day, half-day, or on-call), from June 17 through August 16, 2013.
. Attend mandatory full-day training sessions June 10 through June 14, 2013.
. Camp Director and Assistant Director are required to attend mandatory site director trainings June 3 through June 7, 2013.
. Attend one of the following mandatory Assessment Days which will be held on
Saturday, March 30, 2013, and Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 9:00am-5:00pm.
. Any candidate that is selected by the hiring department will be required to successfully complete drug and TB screenings administered by a City-selected physician(s), DMV background check and Department of Justice Fingerprinting as a condition of employment. A conviction history will not necessarily disqualify an applicant from appointment; however, failure to disclose conviction history will result in refusal of employment or termination.
