San Jose, CA. San Jose City College has received official notification from the Accrediting Commission of Community and Junior Colleges (AACJC) that it has lifted the college’s probation status and fully reaffirmed its accreditation status with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). ACCJC/WASC elevated the college’s status from probation to reaffirmation effective immediately. The elevation in accreditation status represents a two level increase that is uncommon for colleges who have been previously placed on probation.
The removal of probation will be announced this evening at the monthly meeting of the San Jose/Evergreen Board of Trustees by Dr. Barbara Kavalier, president of the college. The notification received today from Mr. Garman “Jack” Pond, ACCJC Vice President of Operations and Communication, indicated that the Commission acted to remove San Jose City College from probation and award it with reaffirmation of accreditation. The action, an elevation of two major steps, was made at the Commission’s semi-annual meeting on January 9-11, 2013.
In sharing the good news with the campus community, Dr. Kavalier stated, “Recognizing where we were just two years ago, I would suggest that this accomplishment is tremendous!
