Laser Technology
The Program
The Laser Technology program at San Jose City College (SJCC)
has been able to maintain its vitality and relevance by ensuring that students
learn what employers need. The program was designed, and is continuously being
updated, in conjunction with the Laser Electro-Optics Manufacturers Association
(LEOMA), http://www.leoma.com .
Emphasis is placed on both theory and hands-on skills for technicians are the
vital link between engineers' "blueprints" and their real-world implementations.
Trainees learn how to install, operate, maintain, and modify laser/electro-optic
systems.
Employment
The SJCC Laser Technology students and graduates are highly sought
after
in labs and manufacturing firms in a variety of industries. Our first semester
open-entry course, Laser 100, is specifically designed to prepare participants
for entry-level technician jobs with starting salaries in excess of $40,000 per annum.
We strongly encourage our students to graduate from their Laser Technology certificate
and/or A.S. study programs for even better income and employability potential.
Companies on the cutting-edge of laser electro-optics technology such as Spectra-Physics,
Coherent, JDS Uniphase, New Focus, Lightwave Electronics, and Lawrence Livermore
National Labs have employed and continue to seek our students and graduates
for employment
