Journalism
Journalism at San José City College is a multi-faceted program that offers
classes in mass media, writing and reporting for print media, and newspaper
production, both print and electronic.
Winner of General Excellence awards from professional and collegiate journalism
organizations, the campus newspaper, The Times, offers
training and experience in the preparation of news in print and electronic formats.
The Times On-Line,
which was launched in 1996 and will reappear in Fall 2002, provides an Internet version of the campus newspaper. Students are trained in many facets of newspaper production, including reporting, editing, design, photojournalism, advertising, graphics, and production, producing an eight-page, tabloid-size newspaper every two weeks. Starting in Fall 2002, students will have an opportunity to create a magazine format for campus news. Writing, editing, and production are done in a modern Macintosh computer-equipped laboratory.
Journalism students have the opportunity to attend regional and state journalism conferences in which
professional journalists share their knowledge. San Jose City College students have a long tradition of receiving
awards and recognition for their journalistic accomplishments.
