Work Experience

Career/Occupational Work Experience is designed for students who work or volunteer in a field related to their career major. Students are required to provide evidence that they are enrolled in a career program (e.g., education plan or coursework in a career/technical subject area).

Students who are not employed in their intended career field, but are employed, may enroll in General Work Experience only, which is repeatable to a maximum of 6 units. Internship/job placement is the responsibility of the student, but students may seek assistance in the campus Job Placement Center.

Students can earn one unit of credit for each 60 hours of unpaid volunteer time or 75 hours of paid work during the semester. Students can repeat Career/Occupational Work Experience, combined with General Work Experience, or alone, up to a maximum of 16 units.

Students are required to submit a new application (pdf) each semester.

These applications should be sent to the WE instructors in one of  two ways:
            • Send electronically to WE instructors:  Pat.Space@sjcc.edu or to Susie.Castaneda@sjcc.edu .
            • Download the paper form and drop off in the WE night drop box at Room 308A in the 300 building, which  is located in the center and toward the back of the campus.
