Paul Golonka knows what he wants from his career and thanks to San Jose
City College he has a chance to get it. “I’ve always been interested in
aviation and of course I’d like to be wel
l paid,” says Paul, “now City
College is bringing that dream home for me.”
San José City College is proud to announce that on September 15th at 10 AM
a ceremony was held recognizing its partnership with the Federal
Aviation Administration’s (FAA) prestigious Airway Facilities-Collegiate
Training Initiative (AF-CTI). This partnership is one of only 50
partnerships, across the United States and world, aimed at giving potential
FAA employees a unique opportunity for degree related work experience at
FAA sites.
The AF-CTI program is the umbrella program which covers the FAA Student
Intern Program and Direct Hire Authority. The Program will prepare selected
students for entry-level positions such as Electronic Technician, General
Engineer, Environmental Protection Specialist, Electronics Engineer,
Computer Systems Specialists and Cartographers within the FAA.
But these are not normal “entry-level” positions notes Kathy Werle, Dean of
Applied Sciences at City College. Dr. Werle notes that “When the FAA talks
about “entry level pay” they are talking about jobs that range in starting
pay from $41,000 to $95,000. And the FAA also offers incentives for career
advancements, a great benefits program, and an excellent opportunity for
career progression. This is a great day for City College, but more
important, a great day for our students.
The partnership ceremony was held in the Student Conference Room of
City College’s new Student Building. FAA
representatives included Tom Wood from the William J. Hughes Technical
Center in Hayward.
