Courses
Chemistry Lab Equipment
All of our chemistry courses are transferable to UC and CSU campuses as well as most private Universities and degree programs nationwide. This link contains a description of each chemistry course we offer and current semester’s schedule of classes. You can find a wealth of information, including prerequisite and articulation information. To find out more consult our Counselors.

Faculty and staff
All of the full-time chemistry faculty hold Ph.D.’s from highly respected Universities. We pride ourselves in teaching excellence and have nearly a century of combined years of teaching. Our faculty encompass a diverse range of expertise in chemistry, ranging from analytical, to inorganic, organic, & physical chemistry.

Facilities
As a result of a 1998 bond measure passed by voters in the San Jose community, a $16 million state-of-the-art science building is in the architectural stages of planning by chemistry, biology, physics, and technology faculty. The expected date of completion is 2007.

Links

Certain courses use the Chime Tutorial. Chime is a computer software program that can help you visualize the 3-D nature of molecules. For students of Dr. John Song, visit Dr. Song's Web Page

Scientific Instrumentation

Recently, we acquired state-of-the art equipment including analytical balances, research quality FT-IR spectrometer, refractometer, digital polarimeter, chemistry computational software, modern rotoevaporators, and more.

Peer-Led Team Learning

(see also URLs: www.sjcc.edu/pltl and www.pltl.org).

Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) is a small-group collaborative approach to learning, studying, and orally communicating chemistry as well as biology, math and physics. Click on the first link to find out our current semester’s schedule of PLTL workshops. Students who become peer leaders earn a modest stipend and are offered opportunities to participate in: local and national conferences, internships, and more.
