Entering into his first season as a Head Coach Carlton A. Connor returns to San Jose City College with a mission of restoring the program to its successful past. Coach Connor was pervious coaching tenure at San Jose City College. He held the positions of Defensive Coordinator and Secondary Coach for two seasons. Armed with a reorganized coaching staff, Coach Connor has sought out to re-energize the Jaguars both in the classroom and on the football field. This is Coach Connor’s first year as a Head Coach at any level and is sure to be an exciting one.
Prior to assuming the Head Coaching position at San Jose, Connor worked at Menlo College as the Secondary Coach. In three seasons with the Oaks, Connor’s players achieved great things, breaking the schools all time interception record being one.
In 2001-2003 Coach Connor spent time on the Coaching Staff with the San Jose Sabercats. The magic continued, setting team and arena records in the positions he oversaw. His first year, (2001) the secondary set a team record for interceptions returned for TD’s (9), second year led the league in kickoff returns for touch downs (6), single season interception (14 Clevon Thomas), and having worked with the only two time defensive player of the year. Coach Connor, being a part of the 2002 coaching staff that won the organizations first Arena Bowl Championship, gives him a wealth of success to draw from.
Connor’s coaching career has seen him at many levels through thru out the valley. From his first high school coaching job at Irvington High School in Fremont, he has made stops at Santa Clara High School and Gavilan Junior College before coming to San Jose City as a position coach and later the Defensive Coordinator.
Connor played high school football in Omaha Nebraska. He traveled west to play for Diablo Valley College, where in his sophomore the team went 10-0 and lost the state title to COS in the Pepsi bowl. He later played for Cal-State Hayward and led DII in yards on punt returns.
Carlton graduated from San Jose State with a degree in Administration of Justice. He resides in San Jose with his wife Tara and their two children Christian and Andrea. |
