Percy Carr, Head Coach
Percy Carr is entering his 37th year as Head Basketball Coach for the Jaguars. With 788 wins Coach Carr is the winningest coach in California community college history. In Coach Carr's tenure, the Jaguars have gone to the playoffs 32 of 36 years. He has guided 8 different Jaguar teams to the State Championships, claimed 12 Conference Championships, and has produced 17 first team all-state players. In 1989, Percy Carr was honored as Santa Clara County Coach of the Year. In 1994, Percy was honored as the Sacramento Kings Northern California Coach of the Year. In March 1998, he was inducted to the California Community College Basketball Coaches Association's Hall of Fame and was ranked 6th JC coach in the USA by Basketball Times, August 1998. And in September 2000, Coach Carr was honored by the 100 Black Men of the Silicon Valley Organization as the Educator of the Year.
Percy Carr has been involved in coaching California basketball for more than 40 years. After graduating from Fresno State with Bachelor and Master Degrees in Physical Education, Coach Carr began his teaching and coaching career at his alma mater Tulare High School. Coach Carr soon moved to Edison High School where as head coach his teams compiled a 88-22 record including 2 championships. Because of Edison's great success and Coach Carr's commitment to the community, Percy Carr was honored as Fresno Coach of the Year.
After his years at Edison, Coach Carr accepted a position at Stanford, the Cardinal defeated both USC and eventual NCAA Champion UCLA on the same weekend; a feat not accomplished in more than ten years by any Pac-10 team. With his success at Stanford and Edison High School, Coach Carr accepted the head basketball coaching position at San Jose City College.
With 788 wins and Twenty Three 20+ win seasons (including 32 wins in 1996-97 & 2000-01, 31 wins in 1997-98, and 30 wins in 1993-94), Coach Carr is one of the most respected coaches in the country. Coach Carr's record for wins is notable, but his dedication to the students and to the college is equally outstanding. Coach Carr is the architect of the Creative Athlete Retention Response (CARR) program offered at San Jose City College which offers athletic/academic advising to San Jose City College's athletes. The program is the only one of its kind for athletes involved in sports at community colleges in California.
Lawrence Crawford, Assistant Coach
Lawrence Crawford begins his second season as assistant coach at San Jose City College. Coach Crawford has been active coaching in the south bay area for the past thirty years. He got his start at San Jose State University as a Graduate Assistant for the Lady Spartans from the 1981 through 1983 seasons. Lawrence earned two bachelor degrees (Business & Physical Education) and a Masters Degree in Sports Management from San Jose State University.
Jason James , Assistant Coach 
Jason James is entering his first year as an assistant coach at San Jose City College. Coach James graduated from Clover Park High School in Tacoma, WA. And played two years of college basketball at Central Washington University from 1991-1992 and 1995-1996. Jason earned his B.S. in Physical Education and a minor in Health. He also earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Technology from City University in 2001. Jason has been teaching Physical Education for the Eastside Union High School District for the past 11 years, 8 years at James Lick High School and the is beginning his 4th year at Silver Creek High School. Coach James has been the Head Boy’s Track & Field coach at Silver Creek High School for the last 3 years. |
