Last week, the frames and solar panels arrived and
the faculty and student team have begun construction and will be meeting
frequently to ensure completion of the Tiny House for the competition in
October, 2017. We have high hopes for
our innovative design and expect to show well at the completion.

Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) is sponsoring the Tiny House Competition to promote energy awareness and Science, Technology, Engineering, Architecture and Math development in young adults and expose students to a career path offered by the utility industry. The competing teams will design and build houses on wheels ranging between 100 and 400 square feet and featuring smart energy appliances, green building techniques, and use of renewable energy to create innovative net-zero homes.
SJCC is one of 13 predominantly Bay Area colleges and universities participating, along with well-known universities such as Stanford University, Santa Clara University and UC Berkeley.
