San Jose City College logo Moodle Quick Start Guide for Students

I. Log In

  1. On the SJCC homepage, click on Online Learning on the left side of the page.
  2. Click on Log In to Moodle and enter your login information.
    • Username: the same as your MyWeb user id
      To find your MyWeb user id, go to MyWeb and click on the link for login help.
    • Password: Changeme1
  3. Click Login. If Moodle does not recognize your user name and password, contact the Help Desk (see Get Help below).
  4. You will be required to create a new password after you log in for the first time. It must contain:
       • At least six (6) characters    • At least one (1) upper-case (capital) letter
       • At least one (1) number    • At least one (1) lower-case letter
    Be sure to write down your new password.

If you forget your password:

  1. Click on the login help button at the bottom of the login page.

  1. Enter your Moodle user name OR your email address (not both). Moodle will send you one email to confirm the password reset, and then a second email containing the new password.
  2. Return to Moodle and log in with the new password.
  3. Change your password to something you can easily remember.

To change your password after logging in:

  1. Click on your name in the upper-right of the screen.

  1. Click on the Change Password button.
  2. Enter your new password and click Save Changes.

II. View Your Profile and Upload Your Photo

Check to Make Sure Your Email Address is Correct

  1. Text: You are logged in as (name) - LogoutClick on your name in the upper-right of the screen (or click on Profile in the Administration block). Your Profile page will open.
  2. Tabs on the Profile page The Profile page shows a summary of your profile.
    If your email address in Moodle in incorrect, you will not receive messages sent from your instructor or other students. In addition, you won't be able to have a new password sent to you, if you forget yours. Moodle uses the same email address as your MyWeb account. If you want to change your email address, you must do it in MyWeb.

Upload Your Photo or Other Image to Represent Youself in Moodle

  1. Profile fields for uploading a picture At the top of your Profile page, select the Edit profile tab.
  2. Scroll down to the Picture of section.
  3. Click on Browse, find the image file on your computer, and click Open.
  4. Enter a Picture description.
  5. Click Update profile.

III. Go to Your Course

  1. On the Moodle Front Page, you will see the titles of all of the classes you are taking that use Moodle. If you do not see your class listed:
    1. Check MyWeb to make sure you are registered for the class.
    2. Check with your instructor to make sure s/he is using Moodle.
    3. If you are registered and your instructor is using Moodle, contact the Help Desk (see Get Help below).
  2. Click on the course title. The main page of most courses is laid out in three columns:
    • Center column contains the Weekly Outline or Topic Outline for your course, with the materials and activities your instructor has set up.
    • Left and right columns — contain Blocks of information and tools. The blocks you see will depend on which ones your instructor has selected for your class.
      Note: In some courses, the instructor may not use the right column.

  3. Look for the materials your instructor has provided in the Weekly Outline or Topic Outline.
    Start by clicking on the link to the syllabus or green sheet in the top section.
  4. Use the Breadcrumbs Navigation at the top of the page.
    • To return to the course homepage, click on the course title.
    • To return to the Moodle front page, click on SJECCD.
