Coach

Carlton Connor, Head Football Coach

Head Coach Carlton Connor has provided great stability in the Jaguar program over the last 9 years. Since being named the Head Football Coach in 2005 the team’s academic pursuits have been just as important as their own field performance. Coach Connor has set a standard with the number of players graduating with their AA degree and those  transferring to four year colleges and universities and continues to challenge his players to strive for excellence on the field and in the classroom.

On the field he has taken teams to back- to- back bowl games in 2009 (Graffiti Bowl) and 2010 (Breathe of Life Bowl) and was named Coast Conference Coach of the Year.

Prior to assuming the Head Coaching position at San Jose City College, Connor worked at Menlo College as the Secondary Coach. In three seasons with the Oaks, the secondary broke the all-time interception
record and a player set the career interception record.

From 2001-2003, Carlton spent time coaching in the Arena league with the San Jose Saber Cats. The magic continued setting team and arena records in the positions he coached. In his first year the secondary set a team record for interceptions returned for touchdowns (9). In his second year his group led the league in kickoff returns for touchdowns (6), and had single season interception record (14). Coach Connor also coached the only two- time Defensive Player of the Year in Clevan Thomas. Coach was part of the 2002 San Jose Saber Cats coaching staff that won the organization’s first Arena Bowl Championship.

Carlton played high school football in Omaha, Nebraska at Millard North High School where he lettered in three sports. Traveling west he joined the team at Diablo Valley College where in his sophomore year his team went 10-0, the only team in the school’s history to have an undefeated season. He recently inducted into the Diablo Valley College Hall of Fame. He then continued his playing career at Cal State Hayward starting at defensive back and return specialist. Carlton led the nation in Division 2 football in yards averaged for punt and kickoff returns.

Carlton graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor’s degree in administration of justice and later received his master’s
degree from California University of Pennsylvania.
