How To Apply

Applying to SJCC is Easy!

No Application Fee for the 2018-2019 academic year!

Submit an application and supporting documents below by the application deadline.

New Students​

"I am applying to San Jose C​ity College from outside the U.S."

    1. International Student Application​ (Download, Complete and Print).
    2. Official English detailed translations of all your secondary and post-secondary transcripts.
    3. English Language Proficiency Requirement: 
    4. Original Bank Certification Letter indicating required funds in USD (For 2018-2019 year, minimum $21,424​​​​ USD required). 
    5. Confidential Financial Certification,  page 4 of International Student Application.
    6. Passport-Size Photos.
    7. International Dependent Form  (if applicable).
    a) By Examination: Scores must be sent directly by testing agency
            • TOEFL School Code: 4686 Dept Code: 00, Minimum Score: 500 paper-based; 61 iBT.
            • IELTS Academic Module Minimum Band Score: 5.5.
            • STEP-EIKEN Minimum Score: Step 2A.
            • PTE:  Academic Test Minimum Score:  42
    b) Completion of the prerequisite course for college level English at  U.S. institution.
    c)  By Participation in Partner English Language Program.

    Admitted students will receive a letter of acceptance, form I-20, and other admission information. Upon receipt of a complete application, the international admissions staff will review it. Admission decisions will be mailed within 2 weeks.

Transfer Students​

"I am planning to transfer to San Jose City College from another U.S. college/language program"

    If you are transferring from another school in the U.S. and already have an F-1 visa, you must complete the SEVIS Transfer Release Form provided in your admissions packet at least 15 days before the start date of your program. If you plan to travel outside of the U.S. before beginning your program at SJCC, please contact us to obtain an I-20 for re-entry purposes. Do not use your previous school’s I-20 to re-enter the U.S. 

  1. Follow the procedure above for New St​udents. 
  2. In addition, submit a copy of Current Form I-20, F1 visa, passport biographical information page, and  I-94 card. You can access your I-94 information at the official website.
  3. Submit the SEVIS Transfer Release Form to your current college
    • If your F-1 visa expires and you leave the U.S., you will need to arrange for an appointment to renew your visa at U.S. Embassy (outside of the U.S).

    Upon receipt of a complete application, the international admissions staff will review it. Admission decisions will be mailed within 2 weeks. A transfer must occur within 60 days of the session end date of the first school. Transfer students must be in good academic and immigration standing at the previous school attended.

Concurrent Enrollment Students

“I am currently studying at another U.S. college and plan to study at San Jose City College part-time under concurrent enrollment status"

  1. Go to CCCApply and submit an application. 
  2. Obtain a permission letter from your current school’s International Program allowing you to take  one or two courses at SJCC.  Bring permission letter to the Office of Admissions & Records at San Jose City College to obtain a student ID number.
  3. If you are registering for a class that has a prerequisite, clear prerequisites with a SJCC counselor by bringing a copy of your transcripts to the Counseling Department.
  4. Register for classes online at MyWeb​.
