Language Arts

San José City College's Department of Student-oriented faculty teach day, evening, and weekend courses, in the classroom, or during office hours, they welcome opportunities to work with students on their progress and individual interests.English primarily provides solid, core courses to prepare students for their college and degree goals and general education requirements. English composition and literature courses are offered in traditional lecture and seminar environments. Other courses are offered in self-paced, computer assisted, and accelerated formats. Students who enjoy a balance between course work and applied experience will find English Department courses providing project-based activities, such as service learning.

Varied literature courses are provided throughout the academic year, and within them, students explore cultures and diversity, issues in contemporary and historical life, and a range of literary genres.

Interdisciplinary course offerings, such as African-American Literature/Introduction to Jazz, and English for Electronics, also vary from semester to semester. Schedules of classes are available on line or at the City College Bookstore.
