How to Login to Blackboard CE6 — Information for New Users

  1. Turn off all pop-up blockers.
    See instructions for turning off pop-up blockers.
  2. Go to the Blackboard Login Page.
    You can access it by going to the homepage for SJCC (www.sjcc.edu) or EVC (www.evc.edu), and clicking on Blackboard.
  3. Login.  
    Your User Name is the same as for MyWeb:
    •    - first 2 letters of your first name  +
    •    - first 2 letters of your last name  +
    •    - last 4 digits of your Student ID number.
    If you cannot login with this user name, go to MyWeb and enter your last name and social security number, to verify your user name.

    The initial Password is: student.  Click OK.

  1. Change your password (first login).
Current password: Enter student.
New password: Enter your own password — at least 6 letters and/or numbers.
Confirm new password: Enter new password again.

Secret question: Enter a question to which you will remember the answer.
Secret answer: Enter the answer.
  • Click on Save.

  • If you forget your password, you can:
    1. Click on the Forgot your password? link on the Login Page. This works only if:
      1. Your correct email address is in Blackboard.
      2. You entered a Password Hint.
    2. Contact the SJECCD Help Desk to have your password reset:

  1. Login again, with your new password.  
  2. Accept the Java Security Certificate.
    When a window opens asking if you want to accept the certificate to run Java, be sure say yes.

    Note: The appearance of the window on your computer may be different from the example. Click the appropriate button (Run, Trust, Yes, etc.) to make sure Java is running on your computer.

  1. View your My Blackboard page:
    • Course List (center) lists the classes you are enrolled in. Click on the title to enter the Blackboard classroom.
    • My Settings (upper-right corner)
    • Log Out (upper-right corner)

What to do if...

 Your class is not listed on My Blackboard — If you don't see your class in the Course List on your My Blackboard page:
  1.Check MyWeb to make sure you are officially registered. At the present time, it may take up to 24 hours after the course appears on your MyWeb list of classes until you to have access to it in Blackboard.
  2. Check with your instructor to make sure s/he is using Blackboard for the class.

Your Blackboard classroom is empty — If you click on the link for a class you are registered for, but there are no materials visible, check with your instructor to make sure s/he is using Blackboard for the class.

You have technical problems— If you have problems using the Blackboard tools or cannot access class materials, see How to Prepare Your Computer for Blackboard CE6. If you follow the instructionns on that page and stil have problems, contact your instructor.
