To apply for financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA can be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or by paper. Paper applications are available on request by calling 1-800-4FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).

Getting your PIN:
The FSA PIN is used like an ATM PIN. The four digit number will allow you to apply for financial aid (complete the FAFSA), maintain your financial aid application (correct/update/print/reapply), view your federal student aid history. It can also be used to sign certain financial aid documents (e.g. a FAFSA or a FFELP/Direct Loan promissory note).

GETTING STARTED
The FAFSA is the single application used to determine your eligibility for federal student aid (grants, loans, and work-study). It is also used by many state agencies to determine eligibility for state aid programs.
If you are a California resident, it is required by the California Student Aid Commission to determine your eligibility for Cal Grant.
To apply for the 2008-09 school year, you will need the following (if applicable):
Your Social Security Number. Be sure it is correct!
Your driver's license (if any)
Your 2007 W-2 Forms and other records of money earned
Your (and your spouse´s, if you are married) 2007 Federal Income Tax Return.
- IRS 1040, 1040A, 1040 EZ
- Foreign Tax Return, or
- Tax return for Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Marshall Islands, the Federal States of Micronesia, or Palau
- Social Security
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
- Welfare
- Veterans benefits records

Note: For federal student aid at San Jose City College, the 2008-09 school year begins with Fall 2008 and ends with Summer 2009. If you are applying for Summer 2008, you must complete the 2007-08 FAFSA. The 2007-08 FAFSA will require 2006 tax information.

FAFSA on the Web Chat’s Customer Service hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 11:59 p.m. (EST) and 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (EST) on Saturdays (except for Federal Holidays)
Phone - Assistance by phone is available by calling the Financial Aid Office at (408) 288-3741 during office hours or by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).

Cal Grant GPA Verification Forms are not available on-line. Please drop by the financial aid office to pick up the form. Forms must be submitted to the California Student Aid Commission by March 2, 2007 for the 2007-2008 School Year.
NOTE: Students who have completed more than 16 transferable units at SJCC do not have to complete the form. SJCC will automatically send the information to CSAC.
Board of Governors’ Fee Waiver
The Board of Governors’ Fee Waiver will cover the $20.00 per unit registration fee and $14.00 health fee. To apply for the fee waiver and download the application, click below:

If you have completed a FAFSA, you do not have to complete the Fee Waiver Application. The FAFSA will determine your eligibility for the BOGFW.

Datasheet
The datasheet is required of all aid applicants. Students must complete the form and return it to the financial aid office.
Verification Worksheet
Verification Worksheets are required for students who are selected to have their applications reviewed. Students must complete and submitted the requested forms.
