What is the AICCU?
AICCU stands for the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities. There is a wide variety and number of private/independent colleges and universities in California. By choice and design each California independent college and university has its own special character and mission. Seventy-three (73) private colleges in California are members of the AICCU.
What courses transfer to a private university?
Check with your counselor to see if there is a current articulation agreement between San José City College and the college you are interested in attending. If there is not a current articulation agreement with the university of your choice, your counselor will be able to find out which SJCC classes will be accepted. Contact the admissions office at the four-year university for more assistance.
What are the transfer requirements?
Each university will have specific major and admissions requirements. Even though San José City College may not have articulation agreements with all colleges, your counselor will be able to advise you as to which SJCC classes will be appropriate to take for the four-year college your are planning to transfer. Consult the catalog for the four-year university for specific requirements.
It may be possible to transfer to many private colleges as a lower division transfer student (less than 56 semester units), and in some cases, it may be to your advantage to do so. An example would be if there are several lower division courses required for your major that are not available at San José City College. Transfer admission requirements vary, so check the catalog or web site for the college that you are interested in attending.
How do I apply?
Each university’s application filing periods will vary. You are urged to apply during the priority filing period and respond to all requests for additional information (official transcripts, test scores, etc.) by the dates requested. For applications, contact the four-year college directly. Some campuses have their applications available online.
Does SJCC have a Transfer Admission Agreement (TAA) with any of the private universities?
Yes. SJCC has a Transfer Admission Agreement with Santa Clara University.
How much does it cost?
Private universities, unlike public institutions, get their funding from private resources. Therefore, the fees are generally more expensive than at a CSU or UC. The specific costs will vary depending on the college or university attended. Financial aid and scholarships are available at most campuses.
