UCLA annouces guaranteed housing

In the fall of 2022, UCLA will guarantee up to four years of housing in university-owned residences for incoming freshmen and two years for transfer students. The move fulfills a long-held aspiration that campus leaders first articulated in a student housing master plan in 1986.

The guarantee is the first such commitment among the University of California’s nine undergraduate campuses.
“Living on or near campus contributes greatly both to students’ educational experiences and to the richness of our community,” said UCLA Chancellor Gene Block. “This guarantee represents a crucial milestone for UCLA.”

The Robert N. Chang Scholarship is now available.

The Robert  N.  Chang  Foundation,  the  scholarship  was  established  in  2002  at  San  Jose  City  College(SJCC) to assist motivated students from underrepresented backgrounds to achieve higher education. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to approximately six SJCC transfer students. Award Amount:  Up to $5,000 per year for up to two years.

Our History

In 1986, Miss Zenolia (Zee) Gibson established the formal operation of the San José City College "Career/Transfer Center"

The intersegmental Transfer Center Pilot Program (Fall 1985-Fall 1989) was initiated as a means of bringing form to the transfer function on community college campuses and as a cooperative means of improving transfer to the University of California (UC), California State University (CSU), and the independent colleges and universities statewide.

The 1985 State Budget included 3.37 million dollars to fund the first year of a three-year pilot program in which the California Community Colleges (CCC), University of California (UC) and the California State University (CSU) would cooperate to establish up to twenty Transfer Centers. In 1985-86, an intersegmental Transfer Center Pilot Program was initiated at twenty community colleges and universities. San José City College was included in this group.

With great passion, preparation, a strong state initiative and vital work to be done, in 1986, Miss Zenolia (Zee) Gibson, Transfer Director/Counselor, established the formal operation of the Career/Transfer Center. With the increase of funding and the passage of AB 1725, the expansion and support for transfer centers occurred across the state of California.

Our founder and retired former Director/Counselor, Miss Zee Gibson was a great part of this historical process. The SJCC Career/Transfer Center is extremely fortunate to have a well established transfer program created under Zee’s direction. On July 1, 2022, the Career Transfer Center will celebrate its 36th birthday.  Thank You, Zee!
You are an amazing leader, educator, mentor, and great advocate for student success. We hold you in the highest regard. THANK YOU.
