Childcare Resources, Services and Programs

San José City College is committed to ensuring students with dependents are informed of and connect to childcare resources, services, and programs on campus and in the community.  San José City College does not have a child development center nor does it operate childcare facilities.

College Resources

The following are college resources that provide assistance childcare resources, services, and programs:

California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs)

California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) provides students who are currently receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash aid with coordinated support services to help them succeed in their educational journey and achieve long-term self-sufficiency for themselves and their families.  For additional information, please visit https://sjcc.edu/students/support-programs/calworks.aspx.

Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE)

Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) serves Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) students who are transitioning from receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) to becoming economically self-sufficient.  Eligible CARE students will receive additional academic and financial support services.  For additional information, please visit https://sjcc.edu/students/support-programs/care.aspx.

California Child Care Resource & Referral Network

The California Child Care Resource & Referral Network is a membership organization of state-funded Child Care Resource and Referral agencies across California that work together to help families find accessible, affordable and quality child care, and access to information, resources and support that meets their diverse needs.  For additional information, please visit https://rrnetwork.org.

First 5 Santa Clara County

First 5 Santa Clara County ensures that the needs of young children, prenatal through age 5, are priority in all sectors of the community.  The program supports the healthy development of young children and enrich the lives of their families and communities in Santa Clara County.  For additional information, please visit www.first5kids.org.

Head Start California

Head Start California is a federally funded early childhood education program that provides comprehensive services including education, health, nutrition, and family support to low income children (ages 0-5) and their families.  For additional information, please visit https://headstartca.org.

Santa Clara County Childcare Resource & Referral Program

The Santa Clara County Childcare Resource & Referral Program maintains a childcare referral database, known as the Santa Clara County Childcare Portal, with information about the licensed childcare programs in the county.  This information helps parents find licensed childcare that best meets their family’s needs.  For additional information, please visit https://www.childcarescc.org.

TrustLine Background Check

TrustLine Background Check is California’s registry of in-home and license-exempt child care providers (nannies and babysitters), professional supervised visitation monitors, child care staff at Ancillary Child Care Centers (health clubs, gyms), child transportation drivers, and others not required to get a child care license, who have passed a background screening.  For additional information, please visit https://www.trustline.org.

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program helps families across the state by providing nutrition education, breastfeeding support, healthy foods, and referrals to health care and other community services.  WIC serves infants and children up to age 5 and people who are pregnant or have given birth or experienced pregnancy loss.  Partners, grandparents, foster parents of young children and working families are welcome to apply.  For additional information, please visit https://cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CFH/DWICSN/pages/program-landing1.aspx.

 

Student Referral Form

Students with dependents who would like to receive assistance with childcare resources, services, and programs are encouraged to complete the Basic Needs student referral form available online www.sjcc.edu and by clicking on the link found along the bottom static ribbon titled, “Student Referral & Reporting Forms.”

Basic Needs Center

The San José City College Basic Needs Center provides assistance to students with dependents to identify and apply for childcare resources, services, and programs in the community.  For assistance, please contact the Basic Needs Coordinator by calling 408- 288-3104, emailing BasicNeeds@sjcc.edu or visiting the Basic Needs Center located on the first floor of the Robert N. Chang Student Center during business hours.
