Want to learn to use ChatGPT and other generative AI tools responsibly in your classwork? Enroll in Library 10 Digital Literacy this fall! This 1-unit, late start hybrid course, meets weekly and covers: research question development, ethical information use, effective searching, fact checking, data privacy, responsible use of generative AI, and humane digital engagement.  

Nexis Uni expires on July 1st. Please find our temporary Nexis Uni access, through June 30th, only, under "N" on the A-Z Database List. Every year the Library conducts an annual review of our database subscriptions, most of which are up for renewal on January 1st. At this time, the library is not able to pay for any subscriptions with a July 1, 2025 start date out of the previous fiscal year dollars. We will be evaluating the impact of a lapse in coverage from July 1 - December 30, and will consider renewing Nexis Uni on January 1st, if the next approved budget allows. Please stay tuned for updates.

Service area Outcomes (SAOS)

SERVICE AREA OUTCOME 1: The library will acquire and maintain a current collection of print, audio-visual, and electronic resources to support, augment and supplement the college curriculum, course assignments, student success and lifelong learning.

SERVICE AREA OUTCOME 2: The library will provide access to and assistance with information resources for students, faculty, staff, and community; and promotes information resources in all appropriate forms.

To place single items on reserve in the Library:

Print and complete this Faculty Form.Bring both the form and the item to be placed on reserve to the Circulation Counter.

For Class Set Requests (more than 10 books):

Send an email request to Debbra Franklin debbra.franklin@sjcc.edu with the number of books and requested start date for the student loans. It is recommended that the loans start 1-2 weeks after the first day of class in order to allow the course roster to settle.

  • Requests for class sets are subject to review based on physical shelving space and time constraints. If your request is approved, circulation staff will contact you to book an appointment for drop off. Bring a printed, completed Faculty Form along with your book set to your drop-off appointment. Note that you may choose a loan period for the entire semester in the case of a class set.
  • Instructors must provide a roster of all the students authorized to check out a book in the set before loans can begin. Students must be on the list and present a valid SJCC student ID card at the time of check-out for all Reserve loans, including books in a class set.
  • Class set books must be checked-out during the Library's open hours. (No doorbell service.)
  • Bringing an entire class for checkout at once is not recommended due to long wait times. If a group checkout is necessary, all group checkouts of individual items in a class set stop at 4:30pm. 
  • Should items in a class set need updating or become disused with low loan rates, the library may remove them from the collection/surplus.
