Library information

Library Cards

Your SJCC I.D. Card is your library card. You can get one at the Information Counter in the Student Services Center. You are responsible for the return of all library materials borrowed with your card. Fines are charged for overdue items, and payment is required for lost or damaged materials.

Reference books, newspapers, some reserve items, and the current issues of magazines are for library use only.


Items can be renewed twice, unless another borrower has requested them. For renewals, call (408) 288-3775Fines for Overdue Items

General Items (books, CDs, DVDs)  $ 0.25 per day, each item
Study Rooms                                     $ 1.50 per hour or partial hour
Reserve Items                                    $1.50 per hour or partial hour
Laptop Computers                             $5.00 per hour or partial hour
*Fines for overdue reserve materials (textbooks, DVDs and videos only) are $1.50/hour per item for each hour the library is open. Maximum fines can equal the cost of the material, plus a non-refundable $25.00 processing fee.         
*One- and two-hour reserve material not returned to the Circulation Counter by closing time on the day the item is due will be subject to a $5.00 overnight fine and $5.00 for each additional day the library is closed (Saturdays, Sundays and holidays). This fine is in addition to the $1.50/hour overdue fine charged when the library is open.


Library Holdings and Circulation

The library's general, reference, and other special collections total 64,000 print titles. The library also carries 2,495 media items including DVDs, CDs, and videos. The circulation of these materials reached 8,825 check-outs during 2016-2017.

Current magazines and newspapers are available in the Periodicals Area. Back issues of magazines can be checked out for one week and renewed twice. They are stored under the periodical display shelves and also at the Circulation Counter.

Computers for word processing, internet and database searching are located in the reference area and can be reserved for two hours at a time at the Circulation Counter. A student I.D. card is required to check out a computer. Wireless Internet Access is available through out the library.

Disabled Access
The library provides an adjustable table, an ADA-approved computer workstation, a screen reader program and a print-enlarger for the visually-impaired.

Printing and Copying
Black and white as well as color printing is available from the library computers (wireless printing is not available).

Use your student ID number and cash ($1, $5, or $10 bills) to add value to your printing/copying account. 

Change is not given but unused funds remain as a credit on your account for future use.

Group Study Rooms
Ten group study rooms are available on the third floor. They can be reserved at the Circulation Counter by groups of two or more people, for a two-hour time period.

Laptop Computers
Are available for use in the Group Study Rooms for a two-hour check-out period.  Sign the Laptop Computer Loan Agreement at the Circulation Counter to check out a computer.

Library Databases
Magazine, journal, and newspaper articles are found through our 30+ databases available both on- and off-campus. Log-in with your college I.D. number for off-campus access.

Media Equipment
The library houses equipment for listening to compact discs and equipment for viewing videos and DVDs. There is a machine for reading and copying microfilm in the reference area. Ask the librarian for details.

Inter-library Loan is not available at this time
Items not owned by either the SJCC or EVC library may be loaned from other libraries. Information is  available at the Reference Desk.

Two cash-operated photocopiers are located at the east end of the reference area.


Reference Services
The reference counter is located to the right of the front doors as you enter the library. If you need help locating information or using library resources, the librarian is here to assist you. Please leave a message (with a callback number) at 408-298-2181 ext.3899 and we will return your call.

Reserve Collection
The reserve collection, located at the Circulation Counter, contains textbooks provided by instructors, as well as other library materials. Loan periods for reserve items are set by the instructors and may vary.



Student Learning Outcome #1
Students will acquire information competency/literacy skills, which include the ability to access, retrieve, analyze, evaluate and apply, and document sources.

Service Area Outcome #1

The librarians will select, acquire, and maintain a current collection of print, audio-visual, and electronic resources to support, augment and supplement the college curriculum, course assignments, student success and lifelong learning.

Service Area Outcome #2

The librarians will provide access to and assistance with information resources for students, faculty, staff, and community; they will promote information resources in all appropriate forms. ​
